April Music: Another Winner!
We had only two musical acts today, but oh boy, they were great!
First we had The Reno Di Bono Trio, aka "Reno and Friends", who surprised us over and over with their versatility, from Italian to oldies, standards, French, Duke Ellington.you name it! Reno dedicated Darktown Strutters Ball to his dad, Tony, who was present. Reno's brother Peter joined in at the end for Begin the Beguine. And their whole program was terrific!
In the second half we had the San Francisco Accordion Chamber Ensemble (ACE), conducted by Joe Smiell, and they, also, played a very versatile program that included a march (Repasz Band), J. Strauss Jr. (Emperor Waltz), a medley from the great American musical Oliver! , a couple of medleys of cowboy songs beautifully arranged by Joe Smiell, a terrific Paso Doble, a Variation by female composer Chaminade, and a Bizet composition (Le Carillon).
We were happy to welcome some new members, Aldo Didero of San Francisco, Dana and Allen Klein of San Francisco, and Mrs. & Mrs. Hilbert Werner of San Lorenzo.
It was also good to see Jane and Lou Di Maggio, fresh back from a long cruise around the tip of South America. It was gratifying to see many members of other Bay Area clubs there, too.
